I loved this book! My daughter enjoyed it too.
First of all it's a nice fairy tale about character: goodness is rewarded and greediness gets punished. I've read similar tales in other books, however this tale is rich in character (it's not just the kind, pretty daughter, it's an older woman who is active in her community) and rich in ambiance. The whole fairy-tale-set-in-the-forest thing, is pretty old. A fairy tale that describes lovingly a woman's routine, and her life in village, her chores, her thoughtfulness to her neighbors--it's much better. The author gives a good intro to Palestinian life and routine, and throughout the book are little boxes that explain the importance of certain aspects to the story. Sometimes extra information can weaken the appeal of a book, but don't let this turn you off. You can tell this book was written with love.… (mais)

This is a tale used in Palestine to remind children the importance of selflessness, handwork, and friendship. The story is unique and different from the fables most children have heard in America. It is important for children to be introduced to culturally diverse literature starting at a young age. Although the text in this story isn't appropriate for beginning readers, it is a tale that can read by a parent or teacher and is a valuable resource to have in the classroom. Sitti is a lovable character that any reader can relate too. Also, who doesn't like a good tale with magical cats?… (mais)
