Any teacher or librarian who reads this to a group of kids will be met by a chorus of "awwwwww, how cute." Because that is exactly what this book is. Readers first meet the grown up white tigers, simple sentences describing what they can do, where they live. The book then brings readers back to when the two white tigers came to the preserve as cubs and were socialized by a chimp. The book doesn't provide as much information as you wish that it did, but the best part is its simplicity. With a 2.0 reading level, the text is accessible for just the audience that will coo over the adorable photos.… (mais)

It's a story about a true friendship that exists between two real live animals who live on the TIGERS (The Institute of Greatly Endangered and Rare Species)Animal Preserve in South Carolina. The photos are adorable and will have you doubling over with laughter. Now here's the kicker... the LC catalogues this book as fiction, because the story told in the book IS a fiction story. But in my storytimes, I have used it as a 'non-fiction' book because to kids, the story could have very well taken place, the actual animals are used in the photographs, and the words narrate the action in the photographs perfectly. So while it's not TECHNICALLY a non-fiction book, I believe a book like this can build appreciation for the non-fiction genre in children of all ages - even some adults. :-)… (mais)
