Pequena biografia
Louise Annand, née Gibson, was born in Uddingston, Scotland, a daughter of Walter D. Annand and his wife Emma Gibson Annand.
She was educated at Hamilton Academy, where her father was English principal. She enrolled in the University of Glasgow to read English language and literature and graduated with an MA (Hons) degree in 1937. After that, she attended Jordanhill Training College to qualify as a teacher, and took classes at the Glasgow College of Art. She taught at various schools in Glasgow until 1949, when she joined the Schools Museums Service, where she role from assistant to Museums Education Officer by 1970.
Louise had a double career in painting and filmmaking. She made numerous documentary films beginning in 1953, and became influential in a field dominated by men. She first exhibited her paintings in 1945 and participated in various solo and group exhibitions after that. She painted landscapes and abstracts, working with varied materials from pastels to watercolors. In 1988, she published A Glasgow Sketch Book: A Quarter-Century of Observation, in which she depicted Glasgow architecture that was about to be torn down. Throughout her life, Louise was involved in arts-related organizations, including the Scottish Educational Film Association (SEFA), the Glasgow Lady Artists Club Trust (which become in 1975 the Glasgow Society of Women Artists), the Scottish Educational Media Association (SEMA), and the Society of Scottish Women Artists (which became Visual Arts Scotland). She also was a member of the Royal Fine Art Commission for Scotland. She was married twice, first to Alastair Matheson of Skye, and after his death to Roderick MacFarquhar, secretary of the Highland Fund (precursor of the Highlands and Islands Development Board). With MacFarquhar, she traveled all over the world, visiting places such as Finland, Cuba, China, the Faroe Islands, Russia, and Barbados.
