Moniza Alvi

Rosemary Tonks - I didn't like her poems. Maybe I simply didn't get them, but I had this feeling, that she was a spoiled, bored woman, sitting in a cafe and whining about her priviledged, perfect life. I really wanted to shake her and tell her to find something to do and stop complaining!

Ruth Padel - not for me. I didn't get these poems at all, they left me quite cold. I did enjoy the idea of "Darwin", but the poems - not so much.

Jo Shapcott - I quite liked these poems, although I found them very disturbing and much too sensual and wet for my taste. It was a bit like watching frogs having sex in a tank, that's how they made me feel. I think the author said too much, went too deep, too personal for me.

Moniza Alvi - I enjoyed one ot two poems, but generally they were not for me. She kept telling about differences, not the similarities between countries and cultures and I didn't like it. Still, there were some very beautiful poems, my favourite one was "The Bees".

Gwyneth Lewis - wonderful, I loved her poems - so funny and moving, so charming and clever, I truly adored them all. Five stars.

Jackie Kay - I loved the poems, they seemed really raw and honest, a bit too brutal for my taste, but deeply moving and wonderful.

Lavinia Greenlaw - I found these poems very strange and I don't think I understood them at all. I can't even say whether I liked them or not, they were so difficult to get for me.

Alice Oswald - I simply love this author, these poems were so strong and fascinating. I have never read anything like "Memorial" before, it was an unforgettable experience for me. I fell in love with this poem. Five stars.… (mais)
