I read half of it with real pleasure but then I just stopped and never felt an urge to go back to it. It became repetitive. I can see how it could be successful as a TV series, but for a book- nah... only so, so. (

)

If someone called me on this, I’d have to delete this from my list of books read in 2009; I really didn’t read it so much as browsed it. Mario is apparently some sort of famous chef (is he on tv, perhaps?) and Paltrow is along for the ride as photo candy. And there are lots of photos. And lots of recipes. A quick little trip to Spain this summer, with lots of great food. Free, via the public library. (

I like that the book is not all about recipes: it tells a story... plus the recipes are mouth-watering! I could definitely do without Mrs. Paltrow: so boring and self absorbed. I also recommend watching the TV show: que viva España! (

This book showed a lot of promise but ultimately failed for the most part, in that is neither a great travel narrative nor a great cookbook. I have watched the companion TV series, and even though it captures smart, intelligent people, visiting beautiful towns in Spain, and dining on wonderful food, it somehow lacks the spark that makes you want to stay involved. (
