... so far, you should check out I'm A Stranger Here Myself, Notes From A Small Island, In A Sunburned Country and Neither Here Nor There. They're pretty funny. Neither Here Nor There was one that I tried and pretty much stopped in the middle because his descriptions of Europe and Europeans were so stereotypical that I was actually wondering if he hadn't just made the trip up (for a laugh?) and that he made up stories that would fit the US ... ... humourous while the latter stuff tends to get a little preachy when he starts in on environmental issues.
I read Neither Here nor There while travelling by train by myself. I was almost in convulsions reading about him getting trapped in an airplane seat. You really do get a lot of ... I would certainly choose Neither here nor there: travels in Europe by Bill Bryson from AHS-Wolfy's library. ... change and trying to rectify what he'd done. An intelligent and humorous novel as one would expect from this author.
Neither Here Nor There has been my first encounter with the wit of Mr. Bryson and I hope it won't be my last. This book deals with his travels around Europe retracing ... From jennieg's library I would pick A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson. I'm currently reading Neither Here Nor There which is the first one I've read of his books and I would like to read more at some point in time. Neither Here Nor There by Bill Bryson
1. Where did you get this book?

2. How much did it cost?

His books are fun, funny, and immensly informative. ... - another enjoyable Bryson book. I place this somewhere between Thunderbolt Kid (my second favorite up to this point) and Neither Here Nor There. I liked this actually MUCH better than the latter book - more humor more distance covered I suppose...and I suppose the fact that there were more ... ... reading a book, but Bryson is hilarious. So much so that I suspect half of what he wrote is just made up :-D Like in Neither Here Nor There he talks about this saga where he's in Belgium, got off his bus, and like falls down a hill for a mile and trudges through some forest because he ... ... Garp :-D
oh and re: Bill Bryson. I have a bunch of his books, including A Walk in the Woods, but have only read Neither Here Nor There which I have to say was a really fun read. Finishing Le Clezio's Wandering Star and Neither Here Nor There by Bill Bryson (the later perhaps an antidote to the overwhelming sadness of the former). Will then be dipping into a collection of Georges Perec's work, Species of Spaces and Other Pieces. Just finished Bill Bryson's Neither Here Nor There today.
About a week into Gödel, Escher and Bach by Hofstadter - very interesting book, and surprisingly not outdated, despite being written 20 years ago Dearest Dorothy, Are We There Yet? by Charlene Ann Baumbich
The Cat Who Wasn't There by Lillian Jackson Braun
Neither Here nor There: Travels in Europe by Bill Bryson
Anybody Out There? by Marian Keyes
Wish You Were Here: The Official Biography of Douglas Adams by Nick Webb ... witty, observant writer. An absolutely charming tale of Bill Bryson's adventures through Europe. I don't remember when I first read it, but it ... ... to offend any French people on LT, just my experience). I really believe they don't sell any French books at all.
I read Neither here nor there by Bill Bryson a couple of weeks ago and in his chapter about Paris he mentions this store. What a coincidence to start the one book I bought ... ... which was rare for me and a Bryson book.
I was particularly amused by the following description of Roman driving in Neither Here Nor There though:
"I love the way Italians park. You turn any street corner in Rome and it looks as if you've just missed a parking competition for blind ... > 64, 66
Thanx guys, I think I will try another one by Bill Bryson, but not for a while. It wasn't that Neither here nor there was bad, it's just that it wasn't as funny as I had expected it to be. It did have me sniggering on some occasions though, but mostly I either found it not funny ... Finally finished Neither here nor there, my first book by Bill Bryson and was a bit disappointed. It was okay, but I had expected a lot more from it. Still, I understand it's not considered his best book, so maybe I'll try another one in a while.
Now reading Anansi Boys, my first book by ... Finally finished reading Neither here nor there by Bill Bryson. It's okay, but not nearly as funny as I had expected it to be. ... C. Clarke which I quite enjoyed, even though the ending was a bit too drawn out for my taste.
Next up will probably be Neither here nor there by Bill Bryson as I've heard a lot of good things about him and I have one of his novels lying around here. ... a bit too drawn out for my taste. I expect Clarke had too, the book was slim enough as it was.
Next up will probably be Neither here nor there by Bill Bryson. Haven't read anything by him yet, but heard a lot of great things here on LT and from a colleague at work, so I'm looking forward ... ... an idiot. Bill Bryson is great; I'm reading I'm a Stranger Here Myself right now, but I think my favorite of his is Neither Here Nor There. I recently discovered (thanks to Nancy Pearl) Cold Comfort Farm, still very funny after so many years. Finished up my first two reads for 2008:
1. Neither Here Nor There by Bill Bryson
I always find Bryson's travel writing to be fun and relaxing to read - and I learn something as well. This book is about his travels in Europe, ca 1990. I found it did drag a bit at the end, as he found ... ... in a while:

I also find a lot of Bill Bryson's stuff pretty funny. I think Neither Here Nor There was my favourite (it's the one about him traveling through different countries in Europe). Neither Here nor There: Travels in Europe - Bill Bryson 40. Neither here nor there by Bill Bryson
