A book which represents an important portrait of the idealized Brazilian indian. Full of details, descriptions and scenes of adventure, Iracema shows the impossible relationship between an indian men "Peri" and an European, white woman "Ceci". The excess of adjectives and fancy maybe get the book into a boring reading. (

One of the greatest novels of Brazilian Literature, Iracema metaphorically recounts the origins of Brazil. The story revolves around the colonist Martim and his love for the Indian maiden Iracema. From their union is born a son, the new man of the New World. But while the son survives, the union costs the life of his mother, or in other words, the life of the indigenous peoples of Brazil.
