Gilbert Highet was a humanist in the most flattering sense of the term, remembered by his students as a warm and engaging teacher who has left an impressive legacy in classical scholarship. This book is a wonderful and gentle introduction to the art of teaching, pared down to three basic approaches with practical advice, followed by profiles of famous teachers from history to provide models. Thoroughly charming and rewarding. (
