Like some other reviewers, I read this third book in the Lily Adler series before ever touching the other two. (I will go back and read them eventually.) I felt like I had missed a lot of things and had to read between a lot of lines in order to understand the significance of some parts of the story. That said, I totally enjoyed reading this book. It's a bit of a Gothic mystery with a ghost seemingly as the main suspect in a murder. Also, the manor house is very cold and unwelcoming, and staff is in quite short supply. I did enjoy the fact that the characters in this book came across as quite human getting involved in the same sorts of relationships and misunderstandings as today's people do. All in all, Death at the Manor is a very enjoyable, fun read with lots of action. Recommended. ( )Esta resenha foi escrita no âmbito dos Primeiros Resenhistas do LibraryThing. Read about half of this, but did not finish. This seems to be a nice cozy historical mystery series, but it's just not what I'm in the mood for, and I hate jumping in on the third book. That said, the writing is good, it seems well paced, and when I am looking for a new light mystery series I will start the first of this series. Esta resenha foi escrita no âmbito dos Primeiros Resenhistas do LibraryThing. This is the third book in the regency series of mysteries. Tune in to find Lily Adler with a mystery on her hands. First a ghost. Then a dead body. Can she solve it?The third book in the Lily Adler regency mysteries. This was a bit of an odd book compared to the first two. It takes place in the country, not London, and Captain Hartley is not in this one as a co-investigator. So in addition to the mystery, we now have a potential love triangle (or rectangle, depending on how you squint). Plus there's a ghost as the main murder suspect. Really good fun. … wringing of hands, and wailing, of course! Lily Adler once again has her hands full. This time investigating the ghost of Belleford Manor. And surprise, surprise, the matriarch of the Manor is found dead in her bed. The widowed lady sleuth is taken with their neighbor Mathew Spencer and this holiday in Hampshire is a chance to get to know him better. Which she does. But what about the Captain? … some would ask, indeed I ask the same! However now our regency lady detective has something to get her teeth into, a haunting and a murder. Who knows what else will happen? Except the investigation, the clues, the raison d’être has little of the excitement and adventure I was looking for. All a bit ho hum really. Maybe the next in the series will be more defining. I hope so! A Crooked Lane Books ARC via NetGalley. Many thanks to the author and publisher. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha

Regency widow Lily Adler is looking forward to spending the autumn away from the social whirl of London. When she arrives in Hampshire with her friends, the Carroways, she doesn't expect much more than a quiet country visit and the chance to spend time with her charming new acquaintance, Matthew Spencer. But something odd is afoot in the small country village. A ghost has taken up residence in the Belleford manor, a lady in grey who wanders the halls at night, weeping and wailing. Half the servants have left in terror, but the family seems delighted with the notoriety that their ghost provides. Intrigued by this spectral guest, Lily and her party immediately make plans to visit Belleford. They arrive at the manor the next morning ready to be entertained-only to find that tragedy has struck. The matriarch of the family has just been found killed in her bed. The dead woman's family is convinced that the ghost is responsible. Lily is determined to learn the truth before another victim turns up-but could she be next in line for the Great Beyond? Não foram encontradas descrições de bibliotecas. |
