This book is a tragedy of Shakespeare.
In Verona, capulets and Montagues are opposed to each other, but Romeo who is Montague's son fell in love with Juliet who is Capulet's daughter. They married secretly, however one day Romeo was banished from Verona for murder. Juliet took medicine whih made her apparent death to ran off with him, but he didn't notice her "apparent" death and suicide himself, and she saw it then she also suicide herself. I think they're so pity! But I was surprised all events in this story happened in a week!!! ( )

I much preferred the Luhrman movie, I have to say, than having to read it at school. The movie was great though and barely a word had to be changed. ( )

I could read this easily because I know the story.
I have watched the movie and read book in Japanese.
But I enjoyed reading it this time.

Det är inte alla författare som vågar parodiera sig själva, men skall någon göra det så är det Shakespere, som i A Midsummer Night's Dream faktiskt driver med sin tidigare Romeo and Juliet, i den komiska uppsättningen av Pyramus and Thisbe som avslutar pjäsen, inte bara i form av den allmänt förlöjligade handlingen utan även i det eviga »O«-ande som en icke föraktlig andel av dialogen utgör. Annars är ju Shakespeare knappast den mest preciöse av författare, och särskilt inte i Romeo och Julia, där bland annat Romeo och Mercutios tävlan i dubbeltydigheter står ut, och man till och med börjar undra över Julias slutord:

… O happy dagger,
This is thy sheath; there rest, and let me die.

Den tidigare utvecklingen, där titelfigurernas kärlek får dem att trotsa sina familjers hat, behöver väl inte närmare presenteras; möjligen kan man liksom förordet till min utgåva kommentera hur verket framställer den traditionella manliga arketypen som ser med våld uppehållen »ära« som orsaken till alla plågor och nyansera med att påpeka att även den patriarkala familjestrukturen får sig en förtjänt känga: hade inte Capulet bestämt sig för att genast gifta bort Julia efter Tybalts död hade hela historien med den spelade döden kunnat undvikas. Noteras kan också att av de båda älskande är det Romeo som är den affekterade poeten, medan Julia avfärdar hans försök att svära vid månen:

O swear not by the moon, th'inconsistant moon,
That monthly changes in her circled orb,
Lest that thy love prove likewise variable

Nåväl, även om pjäsen själv ständigt svänger mellan högstämd kärlek och snuskiga vitsar, så är den och förblir en av de mest älskade styckena i världslitteraturen. Det är svårt att tycka annat än att det är välförtjänt. ( )

An absolutely stunning book, the renowned story of Romeo and Juliet had me hooked at the first page. The Shakespearean language was beautiful and rich - a refreshing language after hearing "OMG!!" shrieked on high voices all day. A definite favorite. ( )

This was a okay book, it was hard to figure out and when i did, it was strange!! but i really did like the fact that romeo and juliet brought the Montegues and Capulets back to peace!! ( )
