A mongoose is adopted by an English family living in India, and soon goes to war with the cobras living in the garden.

I'd never read any Kipling before. This was an enjoyable 'toe in the water' - and I look forward to reading more. This would be a fun one to read aloud to kids - lots of opportunities for different voices. ( )

The entire Jungle Book is well worth reading, but this story in particular was a childhood favorite of mine. Rikki is the perfect pet. He is brave, loyal, kind, friendly and generally happy with life.

Rikki-Tikki-Tavi by Rudyard Kipling
Story of a mongoose and he wants to protect the garden where his friends and their families live.
He is able to go inside the house and by strategy and help from others he's able to kill the snake and then venture out to get his mate.
Once he rids the garden of the snakes they can live in safety. ( )

This children's story is well written and entertaining. Rikki-Tikki-Tavi's adventures are exciting and the interaction of the animals is amusing. This short story is well worth reading. ( )
