The visits are woven through with meditations on identity and a wistful funniness. ( ) I remember sandi when she was on childrens tv. I was later asonished to discover that english was not her first language - but she certainly has a way with it. This is a true story with all the little asides that come from that, but a clear and easy progression through the narative. funny because of the way that it is written rather than the story being funny in itself. Surprisingly interesting, and personal whilst very funny. Its as much about a mid life crisis as the strangeness of Americans. Gladys are a circle of women students and teachers who put a play on 20 odd years ago at high school and led to all deciding that the theatre was the life for them. Sandi has a reunion with them individually to discover what happened in reality as she explores her own life and the choices she needs to make. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha
In the autumn of 1971, having been thrown out of a rather fancy private school, Sandi Toksvig was sent to the only remaining option - Mamaroneck High School, New York. Sandi was chosen for the lead role in a production of The Skin of Our Teeth by Thornton Wilder. Three girls were cast in the part of Gladys Antrobus, playing her at different ages of her life, and Sandi was the youngest. This was the beginning of a friendship with a group of females that still influences her to this day. Soon all the girls in the cast and crew were becoming members of The Gladys Society. In the end there were 12 of them. The Gladys Society records Sandi's travels in America catching up with her 11 fellows. Não foram encontradas descrições de bibliotecas. |
