not the literal list.

I noticed (stalker that I am) and am pretty excited, but I wonder did the results come in yet for the Bonus Batch? I didn't get any notifications so I doubt it.

Ago 5, 2008, 4:40pm (topo)Message 8: DevourerOfBooks

Not yet. I'm thinking that perhaps after she gets this batch up she'll have time to run the algorithm.

Ago 5, 2008, 5:10pm (topo)Message 9: bnbooklady

looks like we're going to have some good possibilities...yay!

Ago 5, 2008, 10:11pm (topo)Message 10: SqueakyChu

I agree with clamairy. Very nice catch! What fun!!

Ago 7, 2008, 8:27am (topo)Message 11: mlschmidt

OK, now I wish I hadn't caught that - it is making the wait tremendously long, what a tease! I apologize for posting this thread, I know how often I've checking for a comment.....

Ago 7, 2008, 9:10am (topo)Message 12: prmorgan

Quick question. First time I've done Early Reviewers. I can't find anywhere where they explain how they choose who gets to receive and review a book. Is it by random drawing, first prespecified number to request each book, or what?

Ago 7, 2008, 9:58am (topo)Message 13: nperrin

The rules are toward the bottom of the signup page

http://www.librarything.com/er/signup

Ago 7, 2008, 4:15pm (topo)Message 14: iubookgirl

The list is up!

Ago 7, 2008, 8:10pm (topo)Message 15: shrew

I, for one, am curious about the exact steps of the lecanomancy part. Won't the books get wet??

Ago 8, 2008, 8:50am (topo)Message 16: mlschmidt

Magic, its all magic!

Ago 8, 2008, 1:40pm (topo)Message 17: shrew

But I want to know how the magic works! The full ritual!!

Y'know, so I can set one up in my own home!

Ago 8, 2008, 9:16pm (topo)Message 18: mlschmidt

Once you figure this out and get it set up, can I get free books from you as well!?! ;)

Ago 8, 2008, 9:46pm (topo)Message 19: shrew

Well, only if it works such that publishers offer books for me to give people . . .

Ago 25, 2008, 5:35pm (topo)Message 20: raydulany

That was fast. It almost took me longer to yank this out of my tiny mailbox than it took for the book to get here.

Yikes--unbelievably fast--I NEVER receive books even near the same time as the east coast!! Phooey---I just started a book that's due to be published on Sept. 2, and I have another one on deck with the same release date. I always want to bump my ER book to the top of the pile if I receive one, but it messes up my schedule this time. I can't believe how fast this book showed up!

(Thanks raydulany---for filling all this out....I cheated and used yours!!)

I am still waiting for the July, June and May Books that I got...I can NOT believe how quickly this book arrived! I am so HAPPY! Thank you Abby. I know you've been so busy lately and I just wanted to know that I personally appreciate all that you do.

I think the woman that delivers my mail keeps my books for herself. I literally haven't gotten the past three in a row!

In that case raydulany, I thank you for letting me recycle as well! : ) Hope you both enjoy the book!

I was thrilled to get the chance to review Sgt. Rory Miller's Meditations on Violence – A Comparison of Martial Arts Training & Real World Violence.

This book seems to represent a perfect bridge between my interest in crime work (I'm the author of Art of Darkness: Ingenious Performances by Undercover Operators, Con Men, and Others, which was in the ER batch this month) and my next project, which is about body-based learning and spiritual practices, such as martial arts, yoga, pilgrimage. etc.

Looking forward to writing a first ER review!

I have a question. I apparently received a book from August early reviews, but "librarything" sent me a message that I didn't snag and early review books from August! Now what? did they make a mistake? How can I find out for sure? The name of the book is: The Charlemagne Pursuit by Steve Berry. I did get a letter in with the book from the publishing company. Does that mean that they sent me one at random that maybe they had extra copies? Thanks for any help you can give me.

I have a question or two too....I just received The Fire by Katherine Neville and though I know I wanted this book I already got my notice of my ER book and this was not it. The book came today with ER letter in it. I am so excited but not sure where it came from? ..well obviously ER but I was sure I didn't sign up for it.

Question 2 ... when you get books to review that you are not sure where they came from (because of lack of good record keeping mostly) where do you post your reviews or do you just send it back to the marketing dept. that sent it to you???? I need to keep better records and know where I am supposed to send my comments to so from now on I am recording things. Thanks ahead of time.

81.2: Why not post the reviews on LT by default, and then send it elsewhere if requested?

Set 10, 2008, 4:16pm (topo)Message 84: reader247

I found the answer to the fire over at Arc junkies but yes I post here and then several other sites. I really wanted to know if you have to send back to the marketing dept or whoever sends the books out? :)

Set 10, 2008, 4:18pm (topo)Message 85: reader247

also...some books come with little cards in to send back but some come with nothing???

Set 10, 2008, 4:23pm (topo)Message 86: DevourerOfBooks

>84, If you got the book through LibraryThing Early Reviewers than the only place you have to post the review is here, although it can be good to post it other places/email the publicist if requested (usually in a letter coming with the book).

However, if you are getting review copies from places other than LibraryThing or other social book sites like this (say, from cold requests to the publisher or directly from the author), it is generally good practice to make whomever sent you the book aware of your reviews. If the book is an ARC there is often an email address somewhere on it and, if all else fails, you can use that.

Set 10, 2008, 4:26pm (topo)Message 87: DevourerOfBooks

Also, there isn't necessarily standard practice amongst publishers and publicists on what to send with a review copy. Some will send nothing but the book, others a letter with instructions, others a card. You will probably find, however, that if you get a number of books from the same place (through the same publisher and program) you will see trends.

How unnerving to come home from work to find a package from the American Psychological Association in the mailbox. And how nice when it turns out to be an ER book -- in this case, The Dangerous Joy of Dr. Sex by excellently named Pagan Kennedy. It was accompanied by a letter from the Santa Fe Writers Project, which is the book's publisher.

Personal Note: We're "hunkering down" in preparation for being sideswiped (probably) by Hurricane Ike, so I was most impressed to get the package and pleased that, whatever happens, I won't be short of reading material! (Like that could happen.)

This is my first ER book. If a card from the publisher is included should you email them or send them a letter of thanks? I am about halfway through the book and so far it is poignant. I anticipate more time to finish as we are also waiting out Ike. We are 50 miles inland but smack in the direct path. Ought to be interesting!

Isty, I just posted about this in the books never received thread! Good timing ;)

I contacted the publisher last night, noting that I had never received my copy. He said they sent the copies weeks ago and that he would send me another copy this morning.

The program director was very nice and responded promptly. If you'd like to contact him go to http://www.sfwp.com/ and click on contact us. I sent my message to the "general support" section of the site.

Good luck! I'm crossing my fingers that this time I'll receive my copy ;)

bookcrushblog, the program director got back to me today and said he shipped a copy out to me this morning. He said I was the second person to report non-receipt, so I guess either most people got it or they weren't worried about it enough to bother contacting the publisher.
