What can I say? I'm just another poor starving art student working retail to keep afloat. I have an overactive imagination and dangerous affections toward musicals, ballet, opera, and everything else that falls under the umbrella of 'theatre.' I may have missed my life's calling by not attempting to be an actress, but I've got a brother into that and Lord knows, Mom didn't need two of us in the family.
So I'm a fashion major, and she assures me that isn't any better. But I love clothes, so it was a natural step! Shopping is great. Tailored clothing is great. Karl Lagerfeld is really great.
Jeans tucked into your boots is not great. We're also over your ruched-boobs and empire-waist combination, dearie, especially when you attempt to tie a tiny ill-fitted bolero sweater over. (We were over that before it BEGAN.)

I'm also a history geek. I love old things. Old architecture, old clothes, old historical sites where two hundred years ago the city's forefathers spat on the ground, and old money. Not that I'm opposed to new money, mind you.

I'm pretty sure I spent most of junior high and high school being a bit of a bookworm and possibly possessing some intelligence, but I do believe I've moved on to become a shallow, superficial, vapid girl. Grammar Nazis can't stand me, because I abuse the English language regularly.

Books are good. Movies are good. Music is good.
Celebrities on their 14:59 minute of fame are so not good.

Sobre a minha biblioteca I have only put books that I consider 'permanant collection' here - but I have read many, many more! This list is great to get an idea of the sorts of books I like, but to see what I've read a great resource is BookCrossing, specifically my bookshelf there.

'Tis arrived a couple of days ago. Thank you so much for sending it so quickly! Now I feel even worse for sending your book so slowly. International shipping is VERY expensive from Australia. I noticed it had a Book Crossing ID in it, so I'll release it when I'm finished with it and we can track where it goes from here.

I hope The Winds of Tara arrives soon,

[Forgotten Fashion] arrived today. Just looked it over briefly but it did look fun. I read your review, so I wanted to let you know that I enjoyed it.

Oh, and I think I figured out the mighty Al's thinking. No fashion books in my library, but plenty of funny. Including a funny graphic novel, [How to be a villain]. So I think it was the snarky factor, not the fashion factor.

Thanks for the offer! Surprisingly though, The Fire arrived on my doorstep yesterday, direct from the publisher. I'm not sure how I got it, but happy that I did. I too need to read "The Eight" first, but I was lucky to find a copy on BM a few weeks ago.

Well, I finished The Winds Of Tara. You can check out the review I posted. Overall it was a good read....certainly much better than one of the authorised Gone With The Wind sequels that I've read (*cough*Scarlett*cough*). I hope you get a chance to read it...though I think it's at least another 25 years before the copyright expires in the US. Perhaps we could arrange some sort of book exchange...I'll send you The Winds of Tara and you could send me something...

I have the Forgotten Fashion book coming on ER - I doubt it's a keeper for me, I only requested it so I could laugh about silly fashion with my Project Runway addicted daughters. So, I'll save it for you after we're done giggling.

I don't know what the algorhythm was thinking this time, I have NO remotely fashion books and am about as anti-fashionista as you can get! (maybe it's trying for converts!)

Yes, tailored clothing is great!!! I have no fashion sense, but love clothes, so a fashionista who works in my favourite store has taken on the task of dressing me. The first thing she did was find two words that describe my style. After much brain storming, we came up with 'tailored charm'.

Thanks for the comment about my review of The Sky Village. Actually, I didn't get it through ER, either. It was the one I was hoping for, and when I didn't get it, I decided to try requesting it from the publisher directly. You might give that a try. I simply emailed publicity@candlewick.com, and told them that I really had wanted to read and review the book on my blog and here on librarything, and did they maybe have an extra ARC? They sent me a nice hardback copy. I had never contacted a publisher directly before, but I thought it was worth a shot.

(God, I can't remember the last time I logged on here! Sorry.) I have just been reading the Dresden Files. Good fantasy stuff. Might I steer you more towards Uncle Orson's sci-fi than his historical fiction? His characters and plotting tend to be stronger than when he lets religion take center screen. :)

Hi! Thanks for your compliment about my booklog. Yes, I did see the Boys Over Flowers anime and liked it quite a lot. I don't remember everything about it, though, since it's been a few years. Right now the manga is in a place I don't remember being animated—do you recall something about a politician's son? Anyway, I appreciate the feedback. :)

Hello- just browsing and noticed you and I love a lot of the same books and authors, in particular, Rebecca, Wuthering Heights, Gone with the Wind, Roald Dahl, The Other Boleyn girl and Princess Bride.

I love finding other people who have enjoyed the same books, you must read Thorn Birds and Girl with a Pearl Earring I know you'll like them, also, try Katharine by Anya Seton, an historial novel, better than Philippa Gregory, but only just. Are you going to see the film of The Other Boleyn Girl?? it was filmed near where I work and I'm really looking forward to it.

Anyway, hope you enjoy those books and i look forward to seeing if we share any other favourites in the future.

Hi Suzi! Glad that you noticed that your fingers were positioned incorrectly before you got further into the comment. It would have been funny if the entire post had been one key to the left. You may be amused to know that I read your greeting as "gross weight BS", which seems strangely appropriate.

Hi,
Paperbackswap is going with a new WL in a few months that lets you rank your books. If you use any of their sister sites like SaCD or SaDVD, it's already in use over there. So it's changing from a strick "first in, first out" system to where you rank what you want most, and you accrue points for that each day. It's kind of confusing, but if you search the discussion forums there, there is more info. A lot of people aren't happy about it, including me! I have a large WL and can't imagine ranking one over the other...

I tried to leave a comment in the thread you started in the BookMoochers group about the situation where you had a book listed on two sites and a moocher left you a negative feedback because someone had already claimed the book through PaperBackSwap, but the comment posting wasn't working (either that, or it will show up 3 times tomorrow). Here's what I wanted to say:

I think that, given your situation (a 1 hour difference between the requests), the feedback was unjustified. Clearly, BM is trying to stop people from getting unjustified points by adding books to their inventory that they actually don't have, but you should be allowed to list your book on multiple swap sites at once. (I mean, listing it on eBay and BM at the same time would not be OK, since there's a timeframe for eBay where the book is definitely no longer available.) Additionally, if there had been a longer delay between the requests (like more than a day), the negative might have been justified. Perhaps BM, like eBay, should allow users to respond to feedback to tell your side of the story when another user leaves negative feedback.

I agree with ErinRebekah - talk to the other person and see if they will change the negative to a neutral. But, if not, I really don't think it will affect your credibility that much.

My wife and I are booksellers in the UK. By co-incidence, we have a couple of Keyes books we were about to get rid of due to low interest in the author. One is Dinner at Antoines, which I`ve offereed to one of the other people on your thread.

The other is called Gold Slippers. It`s currently for sale on EBay Uk but ends in less than two hours. If it doesn`t sell, presuming you have PayPal, we`d be glad to let you have it just in return for the estimated cost of postage.

If you`re not interested, we won`t be offended or anything. I was just struck by the co-incidence that we`d decided to get rid of her books, then lo and behold, two people are interested in her.

No,I haven't heard of BookCrossing- but it sounds great and very useful. You have to read the Into the Wilderness series! You will absolutely fall in love with all of the characters and not want to put the books down. There are currently four books out in the series and the fifth one is coming out in October. I also have "The Queen's Fool" but have not read it yet - it is next in line after I read "Homeland" by John Jakes. I also want to read The Constant Princess by Gregory but can't find it at any local bookstore so i might just get it online. Happy reading!

Just wanted to say that your review of "The Virgin's Lover" was right on! I liked the book, but definitely not as much as "The Other Boleyn Girl". You sound a lot like me, but I wish my catalog was as big as yours! Unfortunately, I spent my high school days and two years of college stuck in a textbook instead of a novel. Shopping is definitely my #2 favorite pastime, so if you know of any up and coming trends or cool stores let me know!
