I saw a notice on LT about an interview coming up with Gregory Maguire and thought of you. Obviously it was a good thought because you acquired A Lion Among Men today. :) I haven't read that one yet but it's in my TBR pile as well. We'll have to discuss it after we read it. Back to the subject of the interview, though, if you go to your LT homepage and look in the upper right-hand corner, a link is provided where you can provide questions to LT staff to possibly ask Gregory Maguire.

thanks, i have seen Casablanca, it's my dad's favorite. And I've seen Statefair which doesn't star Judy Garland. Though I haven't seen Meet Me in St. Louis or The African Queen, those are now on my must see list.

Hi, Polly! I thought I'd actually take the question you asked here as it strays a little from the original thread. ^-^ Downside is that others can't quite jump on the bandwagon with their thoughts, though. My first question given your explanation would be "Do you know why the files keep getting lost?" (My parents regularly lose stuff because they forget where they saved it, for example. But if it's not something like that and the files are randomly disappearing from your computer entirely, something is very wrong with that computer and you'll want to have it checked for viruses and the like, possibly also check if the harddrive is broken.)

The idea of online stuff like Google Docs Amaranthic gave might work for you, but you're just as much at risk of loss as on your own computer. (I think Busifer mentioned it and the troubles with it in a GD thread somewhere.) But accounts can be hacked, files lost in server issues or deleted for some other obscure reason where you have to fight to maintain it. (Blogger, for example, has deleted two blogs which weren't in violation of its rules for no reason at all.)

George R.R. Martin has one computer that's unconnected from the internet to write on and most writers make copies. I have something like four writing folders, all in different locations, all with the same material. That way, if I were to lose everything at one location, I've still got it at others. It's not perfect, but the sad truth is that no file storage system is perfect, not even the hard copy you have in your notebook. I think the multiple locations is what most authors do, but I'm not sure.

Hi Polly,

I was trying to remember if Mini was the dog I sketched! I'm so glad I did it so that you have that to remember your sweet dog. It's always so hard to lose a pet, and harder still when you have to make those tough choices at the vet. I've been through that too. I wish your family well through the grieving process.

What helped our family through numerous pet losses was putting together a scrapbook for each animal. I know MEM said you don't have a lot of pictures, but you could also add written memories and drawings. Just an idea.

Hi there! I don't really have a "set" type of book. I lean towards fiction, since anything can happen. The book has to have an eye-catching cover or a great blurb (I don't know exactly what it is called, the excerpt on the back) in order for me to want to read it. I do like recipe books, just don't get a lot of time to cook. Well, I won't take up anymore of your time. Thanks for chatting with me.

Wednesday's out because foggi is unavailable. I realize some of you don't know your schedules for next week yet, but how is Monday looking? Is there another date this week that would work for people? Thursday night? Friday night? I won't be available on Saturday.

It is still unfortunately far, especially if you were thinking of a day trip. You would, of course, be welcome to stay longer though. I'll be all moved in at the new house by then! :)

Polly, congrats to MEM and to you! Judging by my mother's reaction, I can only assume that you are as excited as she is! In fact, I'm not really sure how to contain/control her excitement (this is her first grandchild), so I'm just letting her be...probably best, I'm sure. ;o) Again, I'm thrilled for all of your family, and I wish everyone many blessings for the future.

well im yong in middle school and i reasently started reading i love fantasy i have loved it from when i was 5 but my altime favorite is love stories. Not like romeo and juliet but romance/fantasy like twilight. I am pretty mature and i have read many strange books envolveing stuff a person my age would think is stupid. i am fine with all books as long as they fall in one of these catagories fantasy romance mystery!

Hi Polly, I just wanted to see how you were doing. I know how miserable it feels and if you have any questions feel free to ask. I have had some help from accupuncture as well but you have to be comfortable with that and have someone who can do it. I also find great help from some bags my mom made me that are filled with dried corn and can be microwaved so they work like mini- heating packs that you can put where it aches. I have taken some supplements that are supposed to help but I am not sure if they do or not. Alpha lipoic acid and tumeric. Warm baths with epsom salts help too.

Let me know how you are doing. I hope it will be better soon or at least manageable. Maren
