There are so many things that can provide us with peace. Next time
you take a shower or a bath, I suggest you hold your big toes in
mindfulness. We pay attention to everything except our toes. When
we hold our toes in mindfulness and smile at them, we will find that
our bodies have been very kind to us. We know that any cell in our
toes can turn cancerous, but our toes have been behaving very well,
avoiding that kind of problem. Yet, we have not been nice to them
at all. These kinds of practices can bring us happiness.

Alison,
You have a very nice collection of books about Thoreau. I'm doing a little research on Thoreau, Emmerson and transendentalism in general. It is very funny because I was reading the book on Thoreau and it had a chapter on Emmerson. That chapter said that Emmerson was influenced by Thomas Carlyle. So I dug out my college lit books and tried to read Carlyle. I must have read it in college because there were notes written in the margins and lines highlighted. I don't remember reading it. And it must not have made much of an impression on me back then. It is still difficult reading and I gave up and switched to my American lit book and began reading Emmerson's "Nature". Much easier to understand. But I'm back to reading the book on Thoreau and enjoying it very much. I switch between it and the book of Thoreau's journal entries. It is interesting to see the progression of his thoughts. Eventually I will read "Walden" which I have never read either. You are very lucky to live so close to Concord. I was in that area in 1985 but not there long enough to find all the literary places of interest. Maybe I will get back there again someday.

Hi! Just visiting those libraries that have Emerson prominent in their inventories. Our Unitarian Church is presently sponsoring a Teaching Company 30-minute video lecture series by Professor Ashton Nichols, of Dickinson College, titled Emerson, Thoreau, and the Transcendentalist Movement over which I preside. I am researching the relationship between transcendentalism and existentialism ( e.g. one source: Nietzsche and Emerson: An Elective Affinity)
Salut Alison,

Je suis entrain de mettre a jour ma bibliotheque. si tu veux je peux t'envoyer des livres de la miennes.
