Sobre mimThe Destin townspeople refer to their town’s past as “the Legend”, hiding the fearful truth from themselves. For, in reality, the story of Queen Ranna and her Sudba Creatures hangs like a dark cloud over the town. So, when ten-year-old Irian Horvats, who is the hub of the novel, decides to delve a little deeper into the mystery of “the Legend”, he becomes entangled in a puzzle – a puzzle that many important townspeople do not want to see solved.
The Legend tells of the Amphitheatre, which belonged to Queen Ranna - the hideous queen of the Sudba Creatures, whose sole role was to create a destiny for each baby born in the town. Each creature embodied a certain human quality - from love to hatred, from intelligence to stupidity, which it bestowed upon the unborn child in differing strengths and recorded in the silky pages of the Destiny Book. No Destiner was free from Queen Ranna or her Creatures – their fate lay in the Queen’s hands. Until Emo and Arena i.e. the heroes of the Destin’s Legend were born without a destiny and hence able to reclaim the Destiners’ liberty.
Following in the footsteps of Arena and Emo, Irian sets out to discover the truth in the Legend. Will he uncover more than he bargained for? Could he unwittingly unleash an unexpected and alarming train of events?

I just started A Heartbraking Work of Staggering Genius for a summer read. Granted, I'm only about two pages into it, but its very good so far. A friend liked it and I thought I'd give it a try. I'd also like to read his latest novel, What is the What, a book about the Sudanese Lost Boys.

Hello and thanks for adding me as a friend. I am reading 'The Decameron' by Boccaccio. My boyfriend and I share librarything and we are reading 'Neverwhere' by Neil Gaimon together (it is my first Gaimon and I'm a little disappointed with it to be honest). He is reading 'Monkey' by Wu Ch'Eng-En (we went to China before Christmas and were intrigued by stories of the monkey king). He is also reading 'The Trial' by Kafka.
I have been buying and cataloging more books than I have been reading recently so that needs to change :-)
What are you reading? I also noticed that you are a published author. What is your book about? When did you join library thing?

I am currently listening to The Memory Keeper's Daughter on tape during commutes and reading Flashman: The Angel of Light. I am currently in the midst of 3 series: Flashman, Winston Graham's Poldark and the Redwall series, so I will probably be reading one of these next. Your book looks interesting - hope all is well with your writing career.

I am reading "Fly by Night", and I am listening to "Inkheart" as I drive back and forth from work. I just finished the Gemma Doyle trilogy, and I really liked it. Not sure what is next on the list.

Right now I have just started Plain Truth by Jodi Picoult. It's about an infant murder in an Amish community. Only 5 chapters in, but good so far. I really enjoyed The Tenth Circle, which I read with a book club a year or so ago.

Let's see~ I just finished Cranford by Elizabeth Gaskell a few days ago. Last night I finished The Princess Bride by William Goldman (I'd read it once or twice previously). Next I'm going to listen to a CD of The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale (I've read the book before) so I can read its sequels, Enna Burning & River Secrets. Thanks for asking ^w^ How about you?

Yes, it is nice to find others with like-minded reading interests :) I just finished A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, and I am now reading The Call of the Wild, Mostly Harmless (of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series), and Learning their Language (about intuitive communication). Right now I'm reading "Mr. Wilson's Cabinet of Wonder" by Lawrence Weschler. It's definitely not a book that fits into my standard preferences. It's non-fiction for starters. It was given to me by a friend at massage school and a few days ago I made the mistake of letting my husband pick my next book out of my 80+ book queue and "Mr. Wilson's Cabinet of Wonder" is what he chose for me. I'm actually finding the book interesting, but as I said, not something I would normally read and not a book that I'll keep in my collection once I'm done.
BTW, I date everything that I've read since joining LibraryThing so you can always change the view to include the "date read" field and then sort to see what I've read most recently. I'm always reading something and usually finish a book within 1-2 days so my list is being added to almost constantly.

I do love books. I have 900-some, and always are looking for more. I work as a librarian in Washington D.C. so my love surrounds me all the time! I am currently reading “Black Hawk Down : A Story of Modern War” by Mark Bowden. It’s about the American engagement in Somalia during the early 90s. Love that kind of stuff. Feel free to look at my library; it’s pretty much all odds and ends, but mostly history. Tell me about yourself; what are you reading?

Well, thanks to your invite, I feel, you know, like a modern guy or something, which I do not think I am deep inside but, who cares? All I've gotta do is make believe, isn't it? So I'll do my best but be comprehensive.
So, let's make it easy and tell you on this site what I tell you in private: I hope your crazy imagination and your sense of humor will be known as soon as possible by, well something like a zillion readers, especially if I become your French translator. Hey, stop panicking: I do write better in French than in English, though it's not very difficult. So please, relax. You don't have to look for another guy. I'm the man you need.
