Wow! Quick trip. If I can plan a tryp to the city during that time I'll let you know.

Dan
Hi,

I look forward to any items you can send us. When are you going to be in NYC? I could easily be talked into going over the holidays.

If you can squeeze in one more thing go to see Fuerza Bruta. It a fantastic dance/performance art event.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Dan
Hello Leo,

It's been ages since we emailed each other. Hope all is going well. I was in Paris last month and bought way too many books. I intended to go to the opera while I was there but the only night I could go was La Boheme and I just couldn't do it. My annual Euro meeting is in Amsterdam next fall. I'll be in touch about that later.

I recently became the chair of the Library Committee at the Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Pittsburgh. If you are ever in the mood to weed your library we'd like to have any of your items that might be of GLBT interest. We're looking for books, magazines, DVDs, CDs, directories, etc. If you send us duplicate items we'll put them in our book sale. We're also starting a lending collection of adult (XXX) DVDs and video. Send those to us if you are so inclined.

We'll reimburse you for your costs if you ship via UPS. We'll also send you a letter acknowledging the value of your contribution for tax purposes.

Check out the GLCC Library here on LT and become a fan of the GLCC Library on FaceBook.

I hope you'll consider donating to the GLCC Library of Pittsburgh.

Thanks.

Dan

PS

If you can't donate to us please donate to your local GLBT Library. I'm sure they need your help too.
Hey!

Noticed you liked She's Come Undone, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here as well as a few other book-related sites. Thought you might like my book since it's also about a disturbed young girl's downward spiral and a bit dark. I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like (I'm out of physical copies at the moment). Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

Hello Leo,

Thanks for the quick response.

I read Bel Canto several years ago but I've never read any of her other books. I'll look for The Magician's Wife. It sounds interesting.

I bought lots of museum guides on my most recent trip to Europe. Have you been to the Lenbachhaus in Munich? I think is is the best art museum I've ever visited. Also the MAK in Vienna was terrific.

Glad you had a good trip. Keep in touch.

Dan
Looks like you bought books while in NYC over the holidays. Hope you had a good trip.

Hi Leo,

No, I didn't end up going to Frankfurt. I was in Prague, Budapest, Vienna and finally Munich for the ICOLC meeting. Got home last night and I'm now in the office trying to ward off the jet lag.

Sorry to hear that there weren't many "gay" titles.

Are you planning to come to New York for BookExpo in the spring? I have it on my calendar and hope to be there. Let me know if you decide to do it.

Keep in touch.

Dan

Deine Nichte

Hi Leo

Hi Leo

Gone-Away World I really enjoyed, it is so well written, and the nameless narrator’s loyalty to his friend Gonzo is quite touching, no to mention the fact that it probably saves the world! You are correct in it is part AF part literary.

I will have to check out the authors you mention, Tad Williams and Robin Hobb. At the moment I am reading Lynn Flewelling’s Luck in the Shadows, getting towards the end now and really enjoying it. I’m also reading City of the Sun by David Levien, another Amazon Vine copy, a bit gruelling to begin with as an eleven year old boy is kidnapped and one is not quite sure what they intend to do with him; but the real thrust of the story is the father’s search for his son along with the aid of a private investigator.

Benjamin

Hi Leo

Not very observant of me – I should not be so quick to jump to conclusions!

At the moment I am reading Gone Away World by Nick Harkaway, and the final part of the final part of the Belgariad, David Eddings: Enchanter’s End Game. Gone Away World is a review copy from the Amazon Vine programme – it’s very well written, if you enjoy words, and a good story. David Eddings is a good story, but not the best writing.

I notice that you have just red Netherland, Joseph O’Neill, I’m kicking myself now because that was a book I could have accepted that book under the Amazon Vine, but left it too late! I now see your glowing review and also hear that it has been short listed for the Booker Prize. I was put off initially by the cricket aspect – not a game that appeals to me. At least I managed another Booker short list book: Steve Toltz: A Fraction of the Whole, and an excellent read it was.

Yes I do live in England – on the south coast about 70-80 miles along from Hampshire; and it is a very beautiful part of the country here too, I’d go as far as to say breathtakingly beautiful in parts - to rival anywhere in the world!

Benjamin
Hey,

I direct PALCI, the Pennsylvania Academic Library Consortium, Inc. We have about 75 member libraries. I'm headquartered at the University of Pittsburgh. It's a great job. I've been in it for about 10 years. Dan
Hi Leo

Thanks for the invite, I’ve had a quick look at your LT – unfortunately for me your reviews are not in English, but I will take some time to look more closely at what you have.

I too particularly like Paul Russell; and I really enjoyed Lawn Boy. Another Book which I truly enjoyed was Catch Trap by Marion Zimmer Bradley.

I haven’t read Half Life yet, I’m not even sure if I still have the book – a lot of those listed in my LT seemed to have gone astray one way or another!

Benjamin
Hey Leo,

Glad to include you in my friends group. We share a lot of books in common. What are you reading now. I'm reading My Lucky Star by Joe Keenan and it's very very funny. The two main characters are gay.

What type of library do you work in?

Funny that you found my library yesterday. On Wednesday I booked a flight to Prague connecting via Amsterdam. First time I've ever connected through there. It's usually Frankfurt or Paris.

Dan
Guten Morgen,
