I read your review for the C&H collection "It's A Magical World" and just wanted to comment... although I've had that book for years and have read it many times, I had no idea it was the last of the original collections. Thank you for sharing that interesting bit of information!

Thanks for your reply, Hamburgerclan. My work is entirely black and white. So I should scan at 900 to 1200. I've always wondered why color takes lower resolution and black and white higher...

Hamburgerclan: I've learned a lot on my own in the last few weeks, but I have some questions about scanning black and white images into my graphics software.

I am using Manga Studio Debut 3, which allows me to create comics panels and edit art as with Photoshop. What I'd like to do is paint my panel images individually by hand using black ink/gouache to near print readiness, scan them individually and import them one by one into the panels I've created with Manga Studio.

If my final image resolution (print ready) for a comics page is 1200 dpi, at what resolution should I be scanning the black and white images? I don't imagine I'd be scanning at 1200 dpi. Would 300 dpi be enough for me to work with?

Hi, your suggestions in the "Help for Comics Creaters" was very helpful. I did get a big screen Apple for my purposes. Now I am looking for a large format flat bed scanner. Do you have any recommendations? I see a few online but am not sure what make is best and what features I should watch out for. Thanks for your help.

We share some great books - Monica Itoi Sone's Nisei Daughter, and Theras and His Town (Snedecker) which I think is quite good. I really enjoyed reading it aloud, and my kids all liked it a lot. As you said in your review (nice that you've reviewed so many of your books) the author (rightly I say) prefers the Athenians to the Spartans. But if you don't consider it good children's literature (about that topic) what would you recommend?

Nisei Daughter is a jewel of a book, isn't it.

I read your review of "Journey to Jo'burg", and thought I'd mention the sequel, "Chain of Fire". I haven't read it yet, but I'm hoping it provides a bit more closure for some of the original conflicts. (http://www.beverleynaidoo.com/chain.html)
